Lawn Mower
« on: 01 June 2014, 17:39:02 »

Its a Briggs and Stratton 4 stroke.

Started ok earlier.....running fine....cut half the grass and then it started missing quite badly...but doesnt stall...

After letting it cool down, ive taken the plug out...looked quite black, but doesnt look worn.
Cleaned it up with a wire brush and refitted.

Started up ok.....running fine...then after about 10 secs starts missing badly again.

Worth trying a new plug??

It initially wouldnt start....a quick peep in the fuel tank told me it was low (the pickup for the fuel is about 1cm from bottom of tank, so running out of fuel isnt really a problem as theres about 1cm of fuel left for crap to settle in. Filled it up with fuel bought about 1 month ago.
Then ran fine for 1/2 the lawn....

Air filter is a bit black at the intake side and oily throughout (which i think its suppose to be oily  :-\ ) However i tried without air filter fitted and it missed the same.

Carb look clean to me....

I'll try a new plug tomorrow  :y

You could leave the gardener to do his job and go out in your ancient VW. A couple of 'scenic route' fares should earn you enough to pay him and have enough left for a used Daewoo. ;D

I would reckon...my council would think im taking the piss if i tried to licence a Daewoo as a taxi  ;D ;D

BTW I had a good 'scenic route' on Saturday.....customer was quoted £55 for the trip, by my office, it actually ran....£40.....so i charged £55, as you do, was given £60....result  :y  :D

B&S normally have foam filters. If it does, wash this out and dry thoroughly, then oil it (cover in oil, put in a sandwich bag and squeeze it a few times to really get the oil impregnated) and try again.

Might be a bit smokey for 5 mins. Reclean plug once the smoking stops.

Mine and neighbours lawn mowers when I repaired them both have B&S engines and paper air filters.

Might be worth getting a service kit, they are typically about £7 off ebay.
