Cheers, it's the second reprieve for the car. Last year I was going to scrap it but the garage convinced me to have it serviced and Mot'd for £89!!! I thought it was a good deal at the time so told them to go ahead. They saw me coming!
They patched up the exhaust with gunk, mucked about with something in the engine so that when I drove it off the forecourt (after numerous attempts at starting it up!) and went to put petrol in, when I tried starting up again something went clunk, then bang, then it just died! Wouldn't start, nor even make a noise or anything! After trying to get the cowboys to come get me I had to pay for a recovery vehicle to take the car back. They had it over a week then called me in to show me the "problem". He said that something was rattling around and little bits of metal had got stuck to a sensor, the lump of metal he showed me that he had removed was a chunk of alloy! I'm no expert in motors but I do know that alloys don't stick to magnets! I ended up forking out just shy of £400 extra for the so called repairs! Him and his other meathead staff were very intimidating and abusive when I questioned about the gunk on the exhaust!! Since getting it back again the stereo has never worked and I can't find any blown fuses either. For a short while after getting it back it used to cut out when I stopped at lights or as I pulled up to park, but that sorted itself out. The car had always started first time without problems before that bunch of cowboys got their hands on it. I didn't scrap it then because of how much I had been pushed into spending on repairs and mot.
This time Kwik fit did the mot and replaced the exhaust (middle to back), sorted out a puncture and replaced a wheel for less than £280! There are a few advisories that I'm thinking of sorted out myself now and keeping the car for as long as I can. That's why I joined here so I could get advice on repairs
