I worked in a garage years ago whilst serving my time...the owner of the garage had a mate who drove a Merc(think it was a 230D) the old W123 Merc's
now this thing was a tank!! especially with the diesel engine in it.....
He came round a bend on a country road...he said he was doing about 20/25 mph because of the blind bend.... to be met with a cow!!
20 mph and it destroyed the Merc...and i mean destroyed it!! right up to the windscreen which smashed and there was a kink in the roof..they had to get a hi-ab to lift it cause it wouldn't go on a flatbed or spec lift....both front wheel were bent.... bottom edge up...flat on the road
When the hi-ab lifted it the engine remained on the road!!! the weight of the cow plus the impact had sheared the engine mounts totally off the car (dont know how bad they old thing was for corrosion) but even still...it was about 12 years ago so it wasn't ancient at the time!
What a mess...it took 4 hours to get the thing off the road and on the truck!
The farmer wasn't best pleased, but couldn't say much as his fence was burst
The rather sad thing about it was the farmer tied a rope around, the now deceased cow,and towed it and i mean dragged it up the road back to his farm
the driver of the Merc was quite hurt, but recovered after a week or so!!
I reckon it was just as well he was driving the big Merctank!! anything smaller and i think he would have been killed
