alarm went off
« on: 13 June 2014, 17:02:58 »

Hi guys, my alarm went off last night. The chirp chirp one with the indicators flashing. My question is doors the battery losing charge cause the alarm to sound. I had left the interior light on so the battery had drained down to 10.8 volts. I have been looking through old threads but most of that refers to the power sounder batteries not the car battery. I am hoping that is why it went off and not something else I have done, as I have just had the clocks and MID as well as the climate panel out to change bulbs and more importantly, rewire the car to take a single plug MID.
I have charged the battery (and turned the light off!!) so will see if it goes off again, but thought I would ask if the lie battery could trigger the alarm or not.

thought the power sounder was a horn not a chirp/whistle. If there is no way it was just a flat car battery that set the alarm off and I am wrong about the noise I will remove the power sounder.

So the power sounder makes the high pitched noise? I did think it was the other way round and it made a noise like a car horn. Mine only makes the high pitched noise if you set the alarm off so I always figured the last owner had already disconnected the power sounder.
It didn't just make noise last night, the indicators where flashing to as the alarm sounded until I cancelled it with the fob.

I have owned Omega's for over 13 years now and, as mine rarely ( touches wood) goes wrong badly, I   clearly have much to learn still  :-\

Yes, a draining battery will set off powersounder (which has an electronic siren).

Thanks to the 2 of you. Alarm was set of by the flattening battery not a power sounder fault. But as the car seems to still have a power sounder, I now have a job for tomorrow. Don't want it catching fire, although I have never heard a peep out of it until the alarm went off last night. Just lucky I guess, as the car is nearly 17 years old.    :y

Aye, had IR remote locking - they used a different immobiliser/alarm setup. From 96, Omegas moved over to the more advanced immobiliser system, and a better alarm system :y
