2.2dti timing chain cover help
« on: 15 June 2014, 12:57:31 »

OK, so have replaced the injector top seals and No. 1 had damage. All back together and cam shaft in when cam chain moved at the last moment and has moved (I think) one tooth. >:( now have to remove chain cover to reset chain and timing. Has anyone had this off before and if so how is it done and how do you get the crank pulley off (how tight can it be) and is it a right hand thread ? Can't go any further until I get the cover off. All help welcome  :-\

Not done one of these but i would check before stripping down.

According to the piccy, theres a mark on the crank and the cam looks like it has a cutout in the end which i would imagine should be horizontal looking at the tool which locks in the end of the cam.

Yep the cut out is for locking the cam shaft, and your pic looks like the chain to the fuel pump (thank you). i have got to take the timing chain cover off as the chain slipped i think one tooth (my fault for not tying it up :'( :'() it's the fact i have never had this cover off before so am going in blind, i have printed some pic's off that i found on the web last night. I was just looking for a heads up. ???

OK, after a long night shift and a meal break on Google :o i have come up with a forum blog from May 2011 by SteveT528 (ex member) who asked about how to remove timing chain cover on the 2.2 DTI engine and was told that you have to drop the sump about half an inch to allow the cover to come off :o :o

This Thursday i intend to remove the cover to allow me to check the chain (if I can get the crank pulley off first) does anyone have any other info to allow me to do the jo. All help welcome. :y

Well that was a good few hours work :o :o. In the end i did not have to take the cover off thank god. Timing chain did not drop a link and after checking the timing about 3 times and testing with pins in, then out and then check again, i am 99.99% i have the timing correct. Now starting the engine after all this and a fuel filter change was no easy task, I have now fitted a hand pump for next time it needs a filter change :y

I have left the car on axle stands tonight to see if it will start after standing over night, just to prove to my self that the air leak has been fixed ??? ::)

Few more jobs to do before big brother get's his Elite back this time and a 72 hour week of night shifts to do first :o :o :D
