Can't get in my car! Aaarrghhhhhh, key fob help
« on: 24 June 2014, 19:03:52 »

Just come back from gym, parked car up

Came back out, pressed key fob... Lights on it are working
Car suddenly won't unlock!
Put new battery in it, no change, still can't get in it :'(

I've only ever had 1 key for my Miggy

Now, all of a sudden, the lights on the key fob don't light up when you press either button
But when i take the fob apart (split in half) the lights work when you press them, but still can't get in me car

Anyone fix keys, and what do Vauxhall charge for a new key?

Mr Happy, missus going mad, can't go shopping

Have called green flag out, doubt if there'll do nowt

Why don't you unlock it with the actual key ::)

Won't the alarm keep going off as it's dodgy on my Miggy

I've not tried key BECAUSE if the alarm starts, it may not stop and will be going off all night surely?

Before I climb out my car, I have to press the little "running man" button
Then press key fob to lock it, if I don't do this, a gust of wind triggers the alarm

TheBoy had my car on tech2 a few years ago and think he said i had a split in the window alarm strip or whatever it's called

Why don't you unlock it with the actual key ::)

Must be a reason  . . . .can't think what though  :-\ :-\.  The manual unlocking operation can sometimes  be very stiff to operate , even more so if it's not been opened like that for ages   . .  . but should work  :-\ :-\

I think to lock the car & as a temporary measure to stop the alarm going off  . . .  open rear door , push drivers door lock pillar/pin down , close rear door  :y

BUT . . . make sure you have the key in your hand & not inside the car  ;) ;)

Take the key fob apart and have a close look at where the battery holder is soldered to the board. Both of mine had broken solder joints. I had to re-solder all three on mine to get them working again.

Also if you pack some tissue paper ontop of the battery and then reassemble, you can sometimes make the broken solder contact, make contact again and it should work. It did for me. But it's only a temporary fix.

Ar ha! looking at the battery part, where the battery fits in, at the bottom of the battery holder
It looks like 1 of the feet isn't sticking

But should I try and open the door with the key anyway?

Wayne, if ever you're passing, I can fix the key.

The alarm will go off if you use key in door until you start the engine.

If you have a carpass, we can program a replacement, 2nd hand fob, if you're passing.

Hope that gives you options :y

But then, when I go to lock it
I just stick the key in and lock it, or will alarm go off?

I've just padded the key with tissue and the lights are working on key fob
But they still won't open the car?
Is there a time limit to put a battery in and get cover back on?
I don't understand how lights are working, yet car won't open :-\

Try a resync (ign on, press fob buttons a few times - car should lock then immediately unlock when it syncs). You will need to do this every time it loses the battery connection.

The carpass is a piece of card (similar in thickness to the glovebox user manual covers), size of a credit card, with some numbers on, such as radio code, CD player code and (the one we're interested in) Security Code.

Oooh, a re sync?

Right, so go out side, unlock car with key
Alarm will go off, turn key in ignition and press both buttons
How many times? 1st turn on ignition? Or 2nd turn?

OK.

Unlock with key. Alarm will go off.
Start car, alarm should stop after a second or 2.
Stop car.
Turn ign to II
within a few secs, repeatedly press either button on the fob until car locks, then unlocks.
