Hello again peeps,
This time I have an issue with Fuel Pressure!
When the car is left for +2-3 hours it takes several attempts to start the car.
It fires every time on the key, the revs rise to about 1200rpm (momentarily) retuning to it's normal 750rpm (ish) then it coughs & splutters to a stop!
After several attempts it starts and runs sweet but if I press the accelerator it coughs & splutters a few times (30-60 secs) then clears and settles to a crisp even tick-over.
I can start the car first time, every time, but if I leave it for a few hours it's the same rigmarole all over again!
I can't take her for a run to clear the cob-webs because she hasn't got a current MOT (YET) 

I have fitted a new fuel filter (pain in the arse estate  ) now I am wondering if the fuel pump is faulty?
I have a spare here that I can fit but I would like to drain the tank prior to fitting it.

Does anyone know which are the Live & Ground connections at the fuel pump connector?

Also is there a fool-proof way to find/locate any air bleeding into the fuel system?

Possibly cam sensor related

Get codes read but warm starting issues are usually cam sensor. Its about only sensor engine wise to cause issues on 2.2

Car starts fine when warm.
As I said in first post, from cold it fires 1st time and every time after that but it sounds like it runs out of fuel and stalls several times (4-5 times) then runs fine.
It definitely sounds like a fuel starvation issue.

I would love to take it for a run to get a feel of what is happening under load but not until it has an MOT.

No codes stored and I can't replicate issue until it's been sat for a few hours

Might be a failing pump then... if you have a spare then fit that and go from there

No need to drain the tank, just don't smoke anywhere near it

Also worth checking Vac pipes and any tears or cracks in the Airbox inlet pipes to the throttle body.

I have removed the fuel pump from my car and there is a bit of dirt on the base of the plate/cup where the pump locates.
I have a 3/4 full fuel tank and would like to clean out the bit of dirt.
How can I do that with all this fuel in the tank?

I nearly shit myself  when I removed the top plate. I didn't expect to be able to put my arm into the fuel tank 
Glad I took your advice and didn't smoke whilst doing this job

I should have some help tomorrow so once I get it running I will be able to observe the engine bay as it's being revved.

If you're leaving it, refit the plate and seal

Re the crud in the tank you can never remove all of it so don't bother... Pump has a filter and anything else gets stopped by the fuel filter

Re the filter was it fitted the right way round? Shouldn't matter but they're technically direction specific

If you mean the fuel filter (Under car between fuel tank and differential) then yes it was fitted correctly 

The only other filter is the one connected to the fuel pump itself and I haven't removed it yet.
However when I removed the fuel pump and looked at the filet it did have a bit of crap in it.

If this can be removed (not had a good look at it yet) I will check the donor fuel pump for any crap tomorrow 

I re-fitted the top plate and popped the flow/return pipes back on it until the morning.
The actual fuel pump I popped it into a plastic bag with a load of paper towels in the bottom and sealed it with a tie-wrap 

Been back in garage and opened boot and I can't smell petrol so all good this end........so far 

Ta for the help today, i'll be back tomorrow to update you guys when swap over is done

If you're carefull you can pop that plastic filter apart, but any significant debris inside it will have come from the pump itself

Is there a test I can do to check the pump is delivering the correct amount/pressure of fuel prior to installing it (i.e. Flow rate)?

So I fitted the replacement fuel pump and there is no difference!
I came to start the car this morning and it did exactly the same as before!

It's as if the fuel injection manifold is losing pressure over a period of time (2-3 hours).

I have checked for fault codes and there aren't any stored.

I am now completely baffled by this and need some more suggestions.

Is there anyone near me (NW Wigan) with a proper Vauxhall code reader and knows a little about these cars?

I would appreciate any help offered.

Ok, next step is to replace the valve on the fuel rail...

And is held in place by a clamping ring it will have the pressure on it, probably 3.0 bar, replace like for like
