DVLA Vans
« on: 27 June 2014, 22:02:46 »

I live in a side street which is a loop off a busier road.  It's very quiet as the only reason to go down our road is to go to one of the houses, as it's the road to nowhere....  ;)

Anyhow, as it's so quiet I've never worried about leaving sorned cars in the layby opposite for short periods, but only ever for a few hours at the most, like when pressure washing the drive for example.  ::)

Today a DVLA van with the 4 cameras on all corners went by.....  :o  Big Brother hey?  >:(  ::)

I suppose on the other hand though they catch some of the uninsured scumbags driving around.  :P  ;)

Its a good thing, IMHO, for ANPR to check for those (properly) breaking the law, so I'm all for it :y

Downside is that there is no leeway for those (mostly) law abiders just shuffling cars around, or popping one on the road whilst cleaning drive/rebuilding garage etc.

But overall, I'm in favour...

Them Vans are around here every 2 to 3 months regular and they dont take any prisoners, theres a lot of off road parking available, some, so called, 'Council Maintained' some Private, some people parking there cars off road on Grass land, its easy pickings they clamp anything they can get there hands.

Whilst I agree with the policy of 'if you wana drive your car on the Road it has to be legal', pretty much all of the cars in question here clamped are sorn, parked up, off road, out the way minding there own business, easy pickings, easy money.

Are they on public land though? If so, I guess that's fair pickings if left like that for days, and unfortunate if just moved to do something.

I guess the muppets cant tell what is public (or council) land, and what is private. Should be easy enough to void it?

They seem to work on the principle if there not trespassing on someone's House boundary(s) and they can get there hands on it, its there for the taking.

Clamp now, and dont bother asking questions later.

We had a run in last year after an apparently random check of the area. I sorn'd my mig when I went to Afghan and left it parked on an area of what is effectively a 12' wide pavement outside my house. There is no of road parking on my side of the street, so cars are always parked there. It is my fault, I never checked the rules about what qualifies as of road for sorn purposes. They turned up to tow the car, but long sob story short, they actually pushed the car across the road where the neighbours park in a small layby between the road and pavement as apparently that was classed as off the road.

off subject a bit........the camera vans used in south beds that take photos from the rear of the car are a pain in the butt, because if you have a disabled badge in the front displaying it properly it does not see it and you get nicked,,,It takes ages to sort it out and after 4 times nicked they now automatically delete it when the reg number goes through their central office.....However now it is bye..bye,,to those nasty sneaky camera cars as they have been deemed illegal and proper foot patrol wardens will now have to walk the beat once more...justice.... :y
