Hi ya,

Got a rear disc/pad brake job on Sunday where the piston needs TURNING in as opposed to pushing in.

I don't have the turner inner tool. Anyone got any novel ideas on what I can use without having to send 50 bucks on the proper tool. I've got a VERY large screw driver with a bloody big head on it. Will this get away with it?

I use a tool I got for removing disks on my angle grinder on the Ford calipers on my Westfield. It's a right PITA trying to maintain pressure on the piston and turn it at the same time, though. Next time, I'll probably just buy the proper tool, TBH.

Proper tool pays for itself first time you use it tbh. Mine is a cheapy which only does one way, but even that can be persuaded to work backwards... Sealey and laser both do fully universal kits :y

Jack sealey and many other tool suppliers sell a 3/8 drive cube type wind back tool that does approx 95% of cars...whether this will suit yours i do not know, the part number is ..VS039....costs around £15.....and you can look it up on their website and just put in the part number to take a gander  :y

The multi-part sets are available for less than £20 on EBay.
That's what I'll be buying when I need one.

Actually, at that price I'm tempted to buy one so that it's readily available.

Likewise as I suspect I might need it for the rear calipers on the Merc :-\ that said it has a similar handbrake set up to the Omega, and I think it's only required for thise calipers fitted with the self adjusting seizing integral handbrake...

That's what I have, very useful, paid for itself many times over:

Yes, disc based handbrake applications with calliper based actuation.  :y

Only ever seen very early types seize or those where the brake fluid is never changed.

Handbrake ineffective was a guaranteed point of Mot failure on any 3 year old automatic mk3 Granada ::)

It's so unusual to find an effective handbrake that I usually mention it to the owner! That's especially true for automatics, as they rarely get used.

Yes although for the sake of 9 pounds you could get the full kit which has all the bits you need and makes the job easier  :y
