Have in the past used pliers to wind caliper pistons back in - agree correct tool makes it easier :y

Ditto - a giant open ended spanner once sufficed on the MR2 when doing an emergency pad change after a track day (when I'd forgotten the tool), but the correct tool greatly reduces the amount of swearing you do! ;D

Long nosed pliers are also pretty good at tearing chunks out of your palms with the force a partially seized piston requires :-X

Ps, found this....



Basically, it's a bolt welded to a Honda distributor key-way (old distributor with this piece removed) and welded to the bolt. Might make myself one of these if/when I get a welder :)

I just like making home-made tools :y

After I mentioned these tools on Thursday, I ordered one. At that price, it's worth having just in case.

As for making home-made tools, I have a lathe, mill and welders, so happily make tools when there is no alternative, or the cost/time don't add up. I made a tool for adjusting the V6 cambelt eccentrics as my 2nd-hand timing set didn't come with one. I bored the worn 1/2" drive hole of a 30mm socket big enough to take the torx socket and welded a slightly bent piece of strap to it to make a custom spanner, which cost nothing and took about 20minutes. Hell, I've a mate who says the repair he did on his dad's Lamborghini calipers paid for the milling machine he'd just bought. But that's hardly the case here, I couldn't make the bits for that sort of money, let alone the time that would be required.

lol i have used a G clamp to wind them back in before now, only because i didnt have the wind back tool with me though but it works well on a vw t4 rear caliper!! :y

Clamps don't work too well on the ones that have to rotate back in
