« on: 04 July 2014, 20:30:31 »

noticed an oil stain on the floor under the car...had a look and it looks like its coming off the gearbox(oh pooh)....its dripping off the bottom of the box....is there some seals that are easily changeable or could it be worse case of gearbox cracked....any ideas of what to look at would be appreciated.......cheers guys....btw its a 2.5 v6 with auto box...

is it ATF (red n smelly) or engine oil. if atf could be a leaking front seal, if engine oil then its hunt the leak.

If its oil, its probably a leaking cam gasket - that can leak oil down back of engine and it drips off the two bolts bottom of bellhousing ;)

the oil level check plug is on the side of the gearbox, driver side iirc. opel the plug when engine running, can on a flat surface and selector on P (or N). oil should reach the bottom of the check hole. But if it's ATF leaking the smell is something that can't be told different from engine oil ;D Really strong "cat piss" smell.

retightening them rarely works, and leads to people taking way beyond the 8Nm which 'dangle berries'es the covers. Replacement of gaskets is the way
