I would have thought a great long shaft that the turbo has to spin up wouldn't do much for the turbo lag though. Guessing it must be very light.

I guess its very light and very thin, having said that, I bet the turbo remains spinning most of the time on an F! car

Yes saw that as it was released on sky as that story broke. A game of fractions, adding up to more than the sum total of the one idea. Development. Love it. :y

I should show that video to my boss. As the principal can be applied to anything.

I also wonder what the theoretical improvement percentage would be on lap times if all those historical breakthrough designs where built on one car?

Ground effect. Active ride. F duct technology. Blown defuser. Brake vectoring. V10 or v8 engine. Etc.

Ferrari must be kicking themselves as they had the same idea, just did not follow it through. Playing it too safe?

A lot of the real tricks in getting an F1 car to perform are kept under the designers' hats, though. The media only know about high profile things that Bernie meddles with in the rules.

I used to work with an ex-F1 software guy and he said each new designer on the team would check the car for all the design tricks that the "inner circle" knew about. Often they'd been in the car a few years earlier and had been designed out by a predecessor who wasn't "in the know". ;D

We're at a similar stage at work. They swept out ALL of the old management, now the new management are re implementing all the old managements errors. While the staff with all the experience in the trade, and within the company, stand and watch shaking their heads. Then they wonder why the staff have a "just take the money" approach.
