Mates Mig has the classic barrel not turning and I know replacement little brass bits are the solution but apparently it's solid and won't turn to enable the steering lock to come off for the barrel to be removed.

Plan is:

Silicone spray down the keyhole and a jolly good jiggle to try and get it to turn to Pos 2 for removal/replacement

Molegrips to encourage the above and maybe a bang with a hammer to encourage it

If above fails the plasics will be getting ripped off and ignition switch removed....then how the hell do I  get the barrel out or any other tips???

Basically a 4mm drill bit straight up the middle...

Ohh that sounds quite doable , I had visions of a huge drill bit taking out the whole barrel. I assume this would then enable the barrel to turn with a screwdriver

Check the key isn't bent first!!!

Only a little bit of bend - 1mm - will stop it turning as i found out recently

Try taking off the plastic underneath and tapping under the barrel with a hammer, the AA man did this for me and this should
help release the key. To remove the barrel I seem to remember, that there is a small hole above barrel facing driver and if
you push in a small Allen key, it should release the barrel. Have a look in the how to section, it should have it in there.
But the main point is it will come out clean, without resorting to drilling.

There is a hole as you say ..... but the barrel needs to be able to turn first

Used just the hoseshoe part of the key with some grips, bit of plusgas down the hole and tapped the end of the key with a small hammer and it turned

Heading down to NW keys for some tumblers , hoping they will fit the for me  i know I'll lose something

As I said recently, on a Senator ignition lock barrel was stuck solid, locksmiths would not touch it, so I put a drill down the middle of the lock, beginning with 2mm and increasing drill size until it suddenly released. I could then turn it with a screwdriver, remove the barrel, and drive the car.

Ended up with a kit for £24 and built up a complete barrel to match the key, bit of a faff but all sorted
