The mind goes into overdrive.

Why would a parent want their nine year old to learn how to use a sub machine gun?
Under what circumstances in later life would it be useful?

I'll stop there. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-28948946

Under what circumstances in later life would it be useful?

The forthcoming zombie apocalypse?
Overthrowing a tyrannical government?

I think that's the idea of the "well armed militia" part of the constitution, anyway..

Terrible tragedy, but hardly an isolated incident in the US, unfortunately.

When I went to a gun show last year in Texas and was looking at a fold up AK47 that would fit in a hand bag.  I asked the stallholder what would you use this for?  and he looked at me like I was stupid and replied "Self protection!"   :o

So I suspect the same answer is valid for your question....  ::)

Not only self protection, but if a country decided to invade, there will be 300 million armed American, killing each other and sometimes missing and hitting the enemy. ::) :o :o Blue on blue seems to be one of their specializations. :o :o :o :o

That's nothing, if you are in Russia near the border with Ukraine, you seem to accidentally end up in an army uniform, with an AK74, fall into an APC or tank, or start marching, get lost and accidentally cross the border and end up being killed or captured up to 50 miles inside Ukraine. ::) ::) ::) ::) :o :o :o :o

With a massive escalation by Russia into what is now an open invasion, the American are getting really tough. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden being too scared to call it an invasion has said it is a "Russian-directed counteroffensive" and Susan Rice, U.S. President Barack Obama's national security adviser has called it a significant escalation with "Repeated Russian incursions into Ukraine unacceptable. Dangerous and inflammatory" right that's it, Putler is now quaking in his boots and can't get his troops out of Ukraine fast enough - Not. If the situation wasn't so serious it would be classed as farcical comedy. It is of no surprise that Putler treats Oduma with complete contempt and is not scared of any confrontation with Obuma where he knows he is pathetically weak and will always blink first. I never though I would see the day where the humiliation that the US suffered under Jimmy Carter, would make him look like a hawk. :o :o :o :o

Guns and stupidity are not a very good mix. Had an occasion on our company's Scottish shoot when a customer decided it was a good idea to give their very petite sales lady a loaded over and under 12 bore.  :( The inevitable happened, the first shot put her on her back, finger on trigger rolling on the ground with one up the spout. :o :( I had hit the deck the moment I heard the first shot. :y :y
Fortunately our Gillies disarmed her and that was the end of the day, and an extremely strict customer invitation policy implemented. :y
The company even had Ely cartridges printed with the company name and at that time had an advert with Ella Fitzgerald breaking a wine glass with the same effect when the tape was played back. The slogan was "Is it live or is it MEMOREX?" which implies if it's not live it's dead, somebody could have been, with a Memorex cartridge. ;D
