Hi, here's the story.

Started and moved the car a few feet this morning to change the drop links.

Changed them and also fitted a new GM air filter.

Started and moved the car a few feet back again, thought there might me a slight roughness to the engine but thought nothing more about it.

Came out two hours later, car would not start.   

Tried several times to start it, no luck, but somehow the noise when cranking sounded different. I did notice a strong smell of petrol.

Did the pedal trick, no codes stored.

Any help would be appreciated.

Crank sensor is the usual issue. When this happens.
 Different symptoms have been described and all noted on this forum. When mine failed, the engine would turn on the starter but simply would not fire. Could be something else re the petrol smell?

You've flooded it. Wide open throttle while turning it over. Apparently it's a common call out at Christmas time when cars are moved a few feet to allow friends & family on or off a drive etc etc

Had exactly the same on my 2.2, the fast spinning made me think I had done the valves and lost compression. Turned out it had flooded and the petrol had washed the oil off the rings.

Spot on for all 3 points. But, pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it over with the throttle open for 30 seconds. Do that a couple of times, refit the fuse and try and start it normally.

Or you could remove and clean the plugs, but that's a bit of a pain on a v6.

Once it does start, take it out and give it a good run on a decent road.

No need to touch the fuel pump fuse or relay.
Wide open throttle + cranking is a condition recognised by the ecu and prevents fuel injection.

Starting to feel a little better. Was thinking the cambelt might have snapped.

I never realised you could flood these new fangled computer contolled engines.

Battery on overnight charge, will give it a go in the morning.

Should I still go for wide open throttle or will the petrol have evaporated overnight?

Petrol should have evaporated overnight - try starting in the morning with no throttle

If not attempting to fire, suspect duff crank sensor

The diagnosis on here was correct. Engine flooded.

All running O.K. now.
