This should please many who think the UK military are going backwards:
Today Cameron announced £3.5 billion will be spent on new army vehicles, plus the 2nd Queen Elizabeth Class carrier WILL be used!
In addition the UK will commit 1,000 troops to a new NATO rapid reaction force that will consist of 4,000 troops across Europe.
Hooray!!

Anyone else think that is a strangely large number for the UK to be providing. A fag packet exercise of 70 million population out of 500 million would be about 550. maybe Cameron prefers us to have a large say. maybe the other countries not sending many pay the Travel and Subsistence costs of our soldiers?
Don't forget, opposite often to common perception, the UK is about fifth in the World's military spending. We still can pack a punch, and any extension to our capabilities, especially with the Royal Navy and RAF, must be welcomed.
However their is a downside; don't fall ill, loose your job, or simply become a member of the poorer classes! The cost of any additional military spending must come from the Welfare Budget. There is nowhere else, politically speaking, that any government, current or future, can go.
