OOFer do able or leave to experts.
« on: 06 September 2014, 11:40:18 »

First off Guys, I appreciate all of the Advice, info and works carried out by your good selves down  the 4 years of Mig Ownership :y The problem is quite simple, not so sure about repair though. Diff leaking either side on seals, one a lot worse than other. If the what ever you call them are removed either side of Diff to replace seals. Does the Diff not have to be set up again, bear in mind I have neither the tools or skills. Would I be better taking to an Axle Specialist :y
Cheers John

I had a diff repaired by a specialist (new seals and bearings) on the 2.6 - cost was £375 though.

My first Omega did over 200k miles - this one is on 195k miles so far, both had a smear of oil around the input flange after around 170k.

If you can get a known good diff from a breaker it will probably be cheaper than changing the seals in yours. Possibly more significant is that the bearings and pinions will have less wear on them than yours (especially if yours has run low on oil)

Sonds like output seals leaking, cost about £8.00 each.
remove driveshafts, pull out old seal, smear new seal with oil, and tap back in,refit drive shaft. Refill diff with 75/80w diff oil. :y

Or give serek a pm and see if he can fit you in. :)  :y

The drive shafts on either side just pull out like they would on a FWD car and are straight forward.

The problem seal is the input seal, because you need to get the correct amount of preload on the taper bearing. The guide http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90523.0 specifically shows you to mark the nut wrt the shaft.
