Speaker upgrade
« on: 09 September 2014, 14:47:06 »

Thinking of upgrading my speakers only reason is I think I've blown the n/s rear!. Are there any recommendations as they will be connected to a kenwood kdc-bt42u. Has anyone upgraded there speakers and which did you use?

Ive played around in the past on one of my old MV6's, retained the HU, had some other speakers kicking around, replaced the door speakers with MB Quartz speakers and wacked some Alpine Tweeters in the fronts, sounded very nice, whilst no increase in Power, it gave a very improved balanced sound, although for me its not all about noise levels but more of a music quality pleasure. Although I must admit I did sort out the Power issue at a later date when I fitted some JBL Subs and feed the whole lot through a Denon DCA800 Amp that I had collecting dust.

THe Kenwoods aren't a bad HU tbh, not the best but an improvement over the VX Range,  Im not suggesting you do the same as the above, but done bit by bit, even with second hand stuff can give a improved effort.

I've got 2 sets of Infinity components in mine.
6.5 in the front, 5.25's in the back.

Cross overs cut / glued into the foam behind the door panel arm rests  :y

Just a point though, it does make a difference with the front speakers if you use a angled adaptor to mount them OR like me you could use the original spacer, cut out the old speaker and fit the upgraded one into the hole.
Just make sure it is well secured to the plastic though. I used tiger seal and small self tappers to secure / seal mine  :)

Infinity's in mine too.

They were used off fleabay, good price and they sound MUCH better than the standard rubbish (and they were Bose).

I also like quality not quantity, unless I am listening to Money for Nothing in which case I am usually told "it's to loud"!
