Hello Guys
Help I'm stuck.
Found mousse in the water and followed the advice on the forum and bought a second-hand cooler from 247 Spares.
Undid the  cooler this evening and bent the oil pipes out of the way.
Wriggled it, twisted it, pleaded with it but couldn't get it out between the heads.
About 1 mm too wide.
Also following advice here I bought a thermostat, took the bolts out from the housing, loosened it but couldn't lift it up.
Oh and I blew down the pipe on the 'new' one under water and it leaks a lot at both ends.
Better buy a new one for £85.
Incidentally I tried Drive Vauxhall for a kit but they no longer support car clubs.

You need to separate the cooler plate from the cooler itself.

Bent the oil pipes? You're going to regret that!

Cooler will only come out once its unbolted from the cover plate, best source for the kit is here:

Plus you need the dowty washers for the coolant bridge and the metal washers for the oil pipe to cooler joints.

And I personally don't advise bending the coolant pipes......it can result in 'issues'

Bending the pipes cause them to leak from the block

Used coolers often strip the threads when unbolted from the plate it needs to be unbolted from the plate to come out / in

Thanks for the help guys.
The old cooler is now out.
Plenty of mousse about but I connected the old cooler up to spare pipes, emptied the oil out, put it under water and blew in one pipe, blocking the other.
No bubbles !
Should I expect some or is the oil leak elsewhere - head gasket ?
Hasn't been burning oil and didn't blow out of the oil filler.
Supplementary question - how do I get the thermostat housing off ?

Oil pressure will be more that your lungs can produce  also it could be the D washers or the cover plate seal  I wouldn't even mess with a second hand one unless it can be proved it was only a few miles old Red Baron did have one for sale but I think it has gone
