I can find no reference whatsoever to the 'aux belt' being changed on my Omega. There is certainly no mention of it being replaced with the cambelt.

So it looks like 90,000 miles and climbing.

Easy to change for a DIY imbecile such as myself?

What is the cost of a new one?

Too easy to speak of ::) pulley plus belt are in finland roughly 65€ (45£) so not too much!

Common practice is to change the belt and tensioner pulley at the same time as the cambelt :y
Really? ::)

I change those when they need changing ;)

Think the wording on the DVD was Aux belt and tensioner every second cambelt change. To be honest if you buy the SKF Auxbelt kit you get a brand new tensioner and pulley anyway so it's cheap enough to replace everything.

So I'm 10,000 miles overdue. What will happen if it breaks?

Alternator/charge light comes on, & if you carry on driving the high temp light comes on & eventually the heads warp!  ;)

Yep, and or worse, my Ex managed to totally kill one of my V6 Plods within minutes and only a few miles when a loose Water Pump pulley cover threw the Belt.  :'(

As for the Tensioner Pulley and Aux Belt, a spare of both gets carried in my Mobile Spares Kit, especially on long journeys, for the sake of a 10 min fix (5 min if you've done one before) and a 15mm Spanner vs the hassle of being stranded its a no brainer.

If the pulley gives up whilst driving at speed, it only takes minutes to self destruct and take the belt with it at the same time.
