Has anyone got any experience of these vans ?

I need to get something pretty quick as just started a year long contract 50 miles away. So gonna be doing 500 miles a week .

I got talking to a local heating-plumbing guy yesterday who has had one for 3 years . He says it's the best van he's ever had . His one is a '55 plate high top LWB version .  These seem readily available at £1500 - 2000 

I have read a few web reviews & they seem like a good all round workhorse  , bit basic , but reliable & good on derv.  There are a few negative reviews as well as always 

Any oofers  got any hands on experience of them  please  ( Josh . . . you about?    )

I had one as a company van for a few months while Citroen were sorting out the rusted fuse-box on my Relay. (2 years old and a rusted fuse-box???)

The LDV was ok.  Very basic compared to the Relay and significantly smaller.  It had the 90BHP engine, which coped well unless there was a lot of weight in the back.  Drivers seat was not the most comfortable, but then the previous occupant may have been 'weighty' or maybe they are all like that?  Road noise and wind noise become tiresome on very long journeys and the piss-poor stereo system struggled to do anything to correct that.

No frills, but capable...... to sum it up.

Stereo . .  no bothered by that   . .  .  only listen to radio 2      so might have a look at one of these .

The omega will seem like it's  driving on air after a day in a Maxus  then ? 

Speedo & rev counter in the centre of the dash not in front of your eyes  (strange that one ) any probs with it ?

My son's company has a large fleet of them,all get ragged hard,he has one occasionally when he breaks his Fiat,will ask him,but I know what he'll say as he hates all the companies choice of vans as they always go for low budget options.

You pay VAT in Kent ?          I'm looking at private sellers  . . . mostly vat free

Check it out with him Ken if you don't mind  . .  the more info the better  . . . but just want something reliable & basic that will

last a year or so .  Looking at putting 25k miles on it in about a year

The Maxus is built cheaply, compared to a Transit they're pretty awful. You do see more sold as spares/repairs then the equiv Transit/Sprinter etc.

However, I do know a few who rate them. They are cheap, a £1500 Transit is likely to be an 03/04 in reasonable condition, whereas the Maxus is that bit newer.

Personally, I would always go Transit. What size and weight do you need?

I used to drive a Sherpa (isn't it the same thing-ish?  ) from time to time, it was 'orrible. It had a multi guess gearbox ...... you knew the next gear was in there somewhere, it was just a case of finding it ...... it was like stirring a pan of porridge!

Where do you get the parts from these days?

Factory finished ages ago and the local  dealer wasnt far behind.

The old convoy prices started to creep up when i had one, once the factory closed.

lol I forgot about the old shepa....they were even worse as a V8 ambulance

Seen plenty with 200k on them but worth nothing after that. Get a single owner one as better looked after. I can find out what to look for etc tomorrow as a good mate still works on them regular.

Need LWB  high/ semi high top Josh.   Not carrying much weight only tools & plumbing pipework/fittings etc  So don't really need the 3.5 gross model .    Got one  lined up to to view . . . but probably look at a few first before i commit
