Dash cam apps

Any good?  Or buy a dedicated dash cam camera?

Dash cam app from the App Store with best rating won't run in the background. The slightest input to the phone, like music or a call and the camera stops. What bloody use is that? ;D

I've been thinking of a dash cam for a while now. I use a company at work who supply hard wired units and the more i buy the cheaper they get, if anyone is interested let me know and i'll dig out the specs

It's two fold.

1) I drive in Slough. Which is something to behold most days.

2) That's partly why "need" a camera.

But to the point. What bloody use is a camera app that turns the camera off, at ANY point in the journey?

Transcend Drive Pro 200 is a decent Dash Cam under £100 IMO, Had mine since June hardwired into the sunroof power feed, no problems here, Surprisingly good quality video/sound for a £79 cam...

Also has WiFi with a iPhone / Android app with many features, Set cams date/time over WiFi from the phones current time/date, Can mirror what's seen on the camera on your phone and if needed wirelessly transfer video clips to your phones camera roll, Adjust camera setting on phone etc...

Set this on HD and you can see how clear the registration plates are Link

Also good at night Link

The max size memory card you can put is a 32GB micro SD card which will roughly capture 3-4 hours of video on 1080p setting can be adjusted to 720p although I've not tried this so couldn't say what that's like. You can also set on loop record if you wanted.

Also has a G-Sensor which sometimes activates the camera to record a protected file under hard acceleration / braking. The sensitivity can be adjusted mind.

I have had an Eprance dash cam for about 6 months, works very very well with good image quality and good low light performance. Nothing fancy and sub 40 quid to buy.

You do need a micro SD card and if hardwiring a mini USB power cable (it does have a cig lighter adaptor with it)

I suspect that's to
a) save the battery
b) allow the thing to run at a sensible speed (I bet crApple are using the main CPU for at least portions of the encoding)
