The Price Of Air!!
« on: 20 November 2006, 23:25:53 »

My tyre inflator is knackered (cheap shit!), so I had to use the air-line at the garage 50p!!! This was a real shock to an old tight a$$ like me!!  :o

In my day , when I was a lad , it cost 10p and even then we thought it was expensive! :D

So I thought I'd inflate them to 50 psi so I'd get my money's worth  :y, do you think this will help my mpg as well? ;D ;D ;D

Ahhh, yes.........such memories ;D If I remember correctly, there was a time when you didn't have to get out of your car at all :o You got you car filled up with fuel, the oil, water and tyres checked and your windscreen cleaned by an attendant.  :y

I'm not that old really, I remember these days as a kid when I was out with me dad ::)

I got an El Cheapo compressor from Wilkos. £9.99. Works a treat, had it for years. Lives in the boot and gets used regularly.

Never trusted the garage ones. Gauges are always buggered and dirty. Also, unless you live very close to the garage or stop and let the tyres cool down for a bit, you'll never get the correct pressure as the pressure is defined for cold tyres.

It worries me that people travel for miles on the motorway, stop at the services, top up the air and then wonder why their tyres are wearing badly or that when they check them at home, the pressure is wrong.

It was the demise of my El Cheapo that prompted the visit to the forecourt air line , wouldnt mind the pump still works but the bit that fits over the tyre valve is buggered >:( .

Also I over inflated the tyres because they were hot , and will check pressure again now they're cold and deflate accordingly :y.
