Fluctuating temp gauge
« on: 18 October 2014, 10:05:22 »

My 3.0 MV6 temp gauge seems to fluctuate quite a bit. My other MV6 was static once warmed up at just below 95.

This one seems to drift around up to 100 then drops back down to 90(ish).

If you are following traffic it increases as I assume no draft is been pushed into the radiator

Thinking airlock or dodgy thermostat ( where is it by the way on the V6)

Any other pointers ?

Does the air con work? You see more fluctuation if the air con is not operating because the two large radiator fans aren't running constantly.

Thermostat on V6 is tucked away under inlet manifold. There is a "how to" in the maintenance guides section if you should need to change it.Sorry can't do links but it's easy enough to find, should you need to.

Before you go mucking about with the stat, it could be the guage itself, i had the same symptoms as you and changed the stat and temp sender without any improvment
I got a 2nd hand gauge from a scrappy and problem was cured. :y

Mmmm - I do have a spare set of clocks for it so will give they a go first as that's easy enough (I think) plus I've a bulb out and need to get the instrument panel out.

Thankd

Might be worth pushing the clocks in to the scart looking connector behind, next time it plays up. Just to see if there's a dodgy connection, perhaps?

I remember on my pre face lift, the ribbon/foil with circuit track on the clocks did not quite line up perfectly with the pins in the connector on the dash board, going by the marks the pins left on the ribbon/foil (whatever it's called)
