TC / ABS
« on: 18 October 2014, 21:32:31 »

Hi Guys,

I just joined the forum have recently bought a 2.6V6 CD

The car has a "problem" The TC and ABS lights remain illuminated, tapping, pushing, punching the TC switch has no effect whatsoever.
From reading through the forums, I've seen references to a TC/ABS module or ECU?? ... Where is that exactly?, also... it may or may not be relevant, the boot release does nothing either, it does illuminate when i open the boot off the fob though?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Doh!

Thanks  ??? ???

I shall try that, however, is it possible the ABS light being illuminated could be related?

Thanks

No, you'll have a dodgy ABS sensor, TechII (Vauxhall's diagnostic tool) will tell you .... I think the failing ABS is more of a problem for earlier cars - but I have known to be wrong  ::)

Thanks Elvin,

Yes indeed, it's the ecu for the abs/tc, Bloody awkward to remove, ordered an identical 'used but guaranteed' part off ebay for 30 quid, i'll wait till it arrives (and the rain stops) before i switch them over.

at which time I shall renew all the brake fluid throughout and check the integrity of the abs senders.

Your link has been extremely helpful.

Just an additional note: I had originally dismissed the ecu, as my speedo is fine, i had thought that speedo failure was necessary to proove ecu fault.. It's not!

Cheers! :y

Opps, missed this first time around  :-[

Its later cars that are the problem Mr B - MFL onwards (ie, from 1998). Pre 1998 cars with the 3 channel ABS are more robust.

On manual Omegas speedo data comes from  rear n/s ABS sensor, so ABS ECU failure means no speedo. ON autos speedo info comes from gearbox sensor, so speedo OK may not mean ABS ECU working.

There is no need to remove complete ABS unit to change the ECU as I once believed - that's the hard way to do it. Do it as follows:
Drain and remove power steering reservoir.
Locate ABS unit - it's on left hand of engine bay, quite low down. It has lots of hydraulic pipes attached to it.These are atached to the engine bulkhead by clips. Unclip them.
ABS unit is located by nuts on screws either side. Loosen the outside nut; remove the inside nut, bend back the heatshield the screw goes through.
Release the cable connection to the ECU by pulling the purple locking slide towards the car outside. I use a long screwdriver to do this. Then waggle the connector and it will come off the ECU.
Raise the front of the ABS unit, the hydraulic pipes will bend to allow this; put something under it to support it in this position.
Now you can see the four torx screws holding the ECU to the ABS unit body. Remove the screws.
Unplug the cable from ECU to bottom of ABS body.
Pull ECU off ABS unit body.

Note there is a rubber location buffer on the bottom of the ABS body. Also there are rubber spacers on the two nuts either side of the unit. Best not to loose them.

Reassembly is the reverse of dissembly, using your new ECU.

Total six screws holding ecu to abs unit ;)

I sent mine to ModuleMasters.com here in The States. They repaired, upgraded it, and turned it around within a week, but that doesn't do you much good. Still there may be an oufit that repairs them for less than the cost of a used unit.

From your OOF archives, a good thread with lots of EBTCM pictures and advice:
