Omega B - ABS/TC lights - No Speedo
« on: 03 November 2014, 17:03:14 »

I have an inexpensive 2001 3.0 Omega that came with the ABS/TC lights staying on and Speedo not working.

My simple diagnostic kit won't let me access the ABS unit.

So first I swapped the ABS sensors on the back from 1 side to the other - no change so assume its not an ABS sensor or pickup fault.

Next I obtained a used ABS unit and ECU from a 3.0 with same part number and swapped the unit. this intermittently appeared to fix the problem - but the following day when the car was started the problem returned and is back for good....

I've had an electrician with Tech 2 equivalent plugged in and he simply can't get anything from the ABS ECU........

I appreciate the used ECU could be at fault - although unlikely.........So I'm thinking it could be a wiring problem? are there any connector points I could check? - any help in any direction would be much appreciated....

As these ECUs are so unreliable, can you be sure the replacement is good?

Very common for the ECU's to fail.

I have one from a 3.0 saloon here if you need another?

To add detail to my post (I was on the phone at the time).

When the ECU fails, it starts as an intermittent fault and becomes more and more frequent.

I would suggest that your replacement ECU is knackered also.

Should you want to try another ABS ECU (assuming yours is Auto and Saloon) I have one here for you to try.  It was working perfectly when removed from the car, but that was roughly 5 years ago.  I'd only want a couple of beers plus postage, so it wont break the bank.

Who/what was the company people recommend sending their ABS ECU to in order to get it fixed?
I have two that have failed in 2 years. I need a permanent fix (if possible).

When mine went on the old 2.5 I used bba-reman and was very impressed with the service .. but it was about 7 years ago now ... £130 including courier costs for the return with a 3 year warranty and it went on the Monday came back on the Friday

Hello Broomies Mate..... prob worth trying another second hand unit if you have one, my car is a 2001 auto, the part number is 09127952 DX 273004206.

It was a pain to fit the first one, but at least I now know what to do....

If yours is the same part it may be easiest if you could stick it on ebay and i'll be happy to buy it....

Thanks

No problem.  I'll get to the ECU tomorrow (It's in my parents garage) and get the part numbers off it.  :y

Yeah, I'm quite sure it's absolutely fine, but I'll leave that to the buyer to decide.  :y

I understand from other posts that if the ABS unit has a different part number that although the ECU unit will fit and work I will need to get re-coded on a Tech 2 machine for the abs lights to go off - which I don't have?

Anyone no anything different?

Thanks

The ABS ECU is coded with engine type, transmission type and a few other car parameters, so, even if it's electrically the same, it will need coding to be a proper match. I'm not sure if the differences will be a show stopper in this case.

As TheBoy says, though, these fail so regularly (and are a common cause of cars being scrapped) that getting yours refurbed might well be a better proposition than 2nd hand. Of course, as you get your own unit back, the config will be correct.

There are some hardware differences between the V6 variants and the non V6 ones. No amount of programming can overcome that ;)
