Best and Worst Motorway Services
« on: 06 November 2014, 10:24:00 »

I quite like Tebay Services M6 Northbound.  There's a great burger van that sells really tasty burgers and it's great to sit outside and admire the views on a sunny day!  :y  A bit bleak in the depths of winter I'd imagine though!  ::)

As mentioned elsewhere Bridgewater M5 is pretty crappy and South Mimms M25 has to be the biggest rip off!  >:(

Funnily enough when I read your post I immediately thought of t'Ebay. I used it going up from Manchester two weeks ago and then again on Tuesday. Free WiFi too though I suspect others provide that.

Some services I don't like purely because they are badly laid out- can't easily find the exit for example.

Finding a decent stop when towing the pikey van up & down motorways is a challange in itself found Strensham & Taunton Dean on M5 OK for this don.t use Hopwood on M42 on a warm summers day impossible to get in dedicated bays so parked in with HGVs stinks of p*** in that area  long way from toilets, not nice.

M40 Oxford and Beaconsfield are good, Wouldn't bother with Cherwell Valley or Warwick
M42 Neither of them (Hopwood, Tamworth)
M54 Telford is good (but tiny)
M1 Donnington Park isn't too bad.
M25 Clackett Lane and the newish one, Cobham? aren't too bad.
M74 Abington - Fabulous views on a sunny day.

I could go on and on!!!!

Tebay services is very very expensive for food...

I will admit though, that the burger kiosk is rather good as its like a BBQ grille they use...

Feeding the ducks there is fun for the kiddies...

I used to frequent services up and down the M6 and M1 when I was a courier driver in London, and found Scratchwood services truck stop very good value for money, but the best services was Keele as you could literally do all your shopping for the week and have a bite to eat too but dont fuel up there though LOL

I think Tebay is a shining example that a services can actually leave you less frustrated than when you pulled off the motorway to visit it.

IIRC they have opened another near Gloucester.

As to the rest of them.. got to be desperate for either fuel or a "comfort stop".

And close enough to home that when the inevitable post-KFC squitters take hold, if I can boot it a bit, I can get home in time...

Ah, my local KFC.  :y
It was Kentucky Fried 'Chips' the other night as they'd run out of chicken.  ::) They were still open so how does that work?  :o ::)
Had to have Harry Ramsden fish and chips instead and it was very nice.  :y
