The GS is a nice car, but I worry about the cost of replacing the battery pack at 7-9 years.

I'd definitely consider one and it would be top of the list. The battery packs are quite reliable but it is the other components of the hybrid system that can fail and can be expensive. But you have to bear in mind this is a £50k car when new. On a different league to the much beloved Omega.
