used exhaust
« on: 10 November 2014, 19:33:19 »

What is the general opinion on used exhaust systems........I have been offered for free an exhaust system for the miggy  that was fitted for only 6 months before scrapping the car,,,,,,my question is even though it has only been used for a very short time if i was to have it and store it ready for when mine needed replacing would it go rusty and the insides rot and fall apart...or will it keep and be ok...ta much. :y

If you needed it now, I'd probably say go for it. But to store, and use in a few years...  :-\

If it's free and you've somewhere to store it, then you've not much to lose apart from the time and effort of fitting it if it turns out to be scrap.  :y

Well, I have done this myself. About the same actually. I shook it out and there was plenty of rust fell out - but then again all that would normally rest at the bottom of an exhaust, they don't tend to get upended, unless you have a very creative driving style.

They rust from the inside and outside, so just be aware of that. But also they're very easy things to fit. I vote go for it. A used but decent exhaust could last longer than a really cheap pattern, don't forget.

Kept in a dry garage/behind the sofa it should be fine... In a damp shed or outside then don't bother as it will dissolve away in no time :-\

I'd store it.  Leave the sections upright so any moisture will have an easy route out.

I would only use a near / almost new if I knew its been stored correctly, slightest amount of water build up inside and it will be next to useless. already have that T Shirt.
