Zafira Oil Filter Housing
« on: 11 November 2014, 14:33:03 »

Does anyone have an experience of these leaking?

Have a slight oil leak onto exhaust on a colleges car and he has been advised to change the whole housing at aprox £500 parts a lab.

I can get the part for him slightly less on TC - but is it really likely the housing would leak? Why not just change the seals?

A case of suck it & see, but I agree that short of the casting being cracked - don't forget that there are some ham fisted mechs knocking about - I'd be just changing the seals.

Phew! Yeah, no knowledge of these at all, I'll hold my hands up, but I'd be looking at the seals first. Especially if you're looking at a bill of that magnitude

Z18XER at a guess then, that filer housing is a big alloy lump which includes the oil cooler, what's more, the filter cap points upwards so you need to find where its leaking.

Its possible some muppet has cracked the filter housing I guess:

They can be got a LOT cheaper (second hand as they just don't go wrong) and fitting is not to challenging.

JB weld is unlikely to hold given the oil pressure associated with it,

Overtightening the cap, or simply never changing the filter so it welds itself shut at a guess :-\

That said, the cap is plastic, so it should break before the casting...

On the plus side, It ought to be changeable without jacking the car :y
