Led Lightbulbs ?
« on: 14 November 2014, 07:26:21 »

Did anyone change the rear light bulbs for LED bulbs on an omega estate and did it turn out better or worse?
I know some cars don't like the led's and playing up on the electric.

They don't agree with check control... so unless your car is plod or GLS, expect alot of error messages.

As Taxi Al says, it will make a mess of the check control.

In addition, not seen any for a while - I think most OOFers have more sense - but the early ones people were buying "cheap" from egay were shockingly shite. And unreliable.

I had some kicking about the workshop and tried them in mine - even though they weren't the cheap ones they still caused the rear brake light to come on dimly. Mildly annoying...

Bulbs are about 40p on Halfords trade. Far less annoying (esp as Halfords bulbs appear to have hugely improved a few years back)

Don't know... Put one in my number plate light for the MOT last year, drove home from the MOT and someone pointed out that it had blown as I was pulling onto the driveway.

Mental note to get one for this year's MOT. :-[

I know it's over someone's 99p budget, but you can often get a kit of bulbs in Poundland (£1, obviously) which includes side, tail, indicator, festoon and one H4 headlamp bulb; they seem to last well.....

I have LED sidelights, LED numberplate light and LED reversing lights... I also have CREE foglight bulbs in the ... foglights LOL

Im hoping to change the rear lights to LED bulbs but if it buggers up the check control I might no bother... unless installing a small resistor in series will trick the check control.....

Yes it will.  I have had LED bulbs all round in all of my previous Omega's and I've just changed the rear bulbs and sidleight bulbs in the ScAAB.  I'll get back to you with the relevant resistor ratings.

I should imagine the resistor value will be something small like 100ohm...?

Ah, no idea how bad their festoon ones are - I always purposely put a knackered one in just before MOT, to give the grumpy old git something to fail it on. We really don't want another repeat of the air freshener incident, do we.

See a lot of Audi's now have LED rear number plate lamps, problem is that the light is so white you cant easily read the number!

Have some LED bulbs fitted to the fogs on the 3.2, was trying to match the colour of the HID headlights a bit better. They got switched on yesterday for the first time in about four years!

It's a shame that even if you fit the Phillips blue / white 5W sidelight bulbs in the headlights they are still yellow compared to the other lamps.

The silver coated indicator bulbs look a lot better that the orange ones though.
