costco jack?
« on: 23 November 2014, 10:51:14 »

Anyone tried one of the lighweight aluminium one's they sell? Arcan or summat  :-\

Just wondering what they are like as my 3.5 tonne one is less than portable and my small halfords 2 tonne one is getting a bit weak at the top end of it's range.

Yeah, I'm sure TB and perhaps Tunnie  :-\ advocated the Costco bought Arcon. Cheap as chips at Costco. But when I was looking for one they had no stock. And online they were a billion pounds  :'(

However, every cloud and all that.... this is the best jack I've used and I have one :)

Not wanting to be picky Webby. But Arcan is far superior to Clarke

I have the the three ton steel Arcan, and used several Clarke jacks. KevinWood has a 1 ton alloy Aracan. Exactly the same as the slightly bigger costco Arcan mentioned and as TB has. The Arcans are superior in every way. Butter build. Much more reliable hydrolics, and non of the trigger happiness of the Clarks when dropping the car. Arcans are lovely and progressive with plenty of control, ime.

The alloy ones are considerably lighter. Pick up with one hand, compared to the steal 3.5 ton Arcan which will pull a bollarck out your neck lifting that.

I have the 1.75/2t Arcan one (1.75t metric, 2t US imperial) and its fantastic. Miles better than the Clarke 3T one I melted (along with the 3T Arcan "ball breaker", which was also far, far superior to the Clarke one).

Both Arcans have a lower saddle - the Clarke wouldn't get under the Irmscher'd chavmobile.

My 2 complaints with the 1.75t Arcan is it lacks the total lift of the 3t Arcan (but matches the Clarke), and it has large handles on the side that get in the way of getting an axle stand close.

If I broke my jack tomorrow, I would buy the same one again.  Its still fairly heavy though, wouldn't want to carry it far.

Last time I was in Cost Co Watford I couldn't find one. Asked a member of staff, who checked the stock screen, says no longer selling them ;)

In MK about 2 weeks ago, I nearly bought another.

Though this time of year, Costco tend to cut back on a lot of their range to concentrate on xmas tat.
