We've got a chap who wanders around the town with a copy of the "racing post" and a perpetually half-smoked rollup, muttering to himself.

He used to be pretty much permanently resident in the greasy spoon which was conveniently just around the corner from the bookies. Greasy spoon disappeared when the smoking ban came in. Not much point in it existing after that. Most of the clients and all of the staff used to smoke.

Can't quite see him in the Costa coffee shop that replaced it somehow... I wonder where he hangs out now? I'll take a wild stab in the dark guess that it begins with P and ends in "UB".

Anyway, he's the one character where you can go to anyone in town and say "you know that bloke..." and everyone does.

When I lived in Frimley there used to be some batty old woman who pushed around a shopping trolley full of carrier bags and dogs... Every town's got one.

we used to have fred the rind road tramp who lived in a tent in the middle of the carrigeway and he used to sweep up the leaves and tidy up along that stretch...sadly he passed away a while ago and left a good few grand of uncollected pension which i believe has been passed onto his surviving relatives in europe somewhere??? Freds history was that he was an ex polish pow who alledgedy fought for the germans in north africa before being captured by the 8th army and then changing sides and joining the free polish army and finnally settling in wolverhampton before suffering a breakdown after his wife left him in the 60`s he set up on the ring road and wolvo council left him alone for many years he was fed by the local hindu and buddhist tamples and became regarded as a holy man cause of the simple life he led and i believe that their is a pettition doing the rounds for a statue in his honour....i think their are some vids on youtube just type fred the ring road tramp in wolverhampton....

We had one in Tunbridge Wells and when he died it came out he was a millionaire :o Not much wrong with him, I don't think I'd be living rough if I was a millionaire but then I'm normal. Maybe :)

at least he's trying to 'entertain', rather than just sit there and ask for money.

we had one, a woman that looked like jimi hendrix, and she used to shout '50p for a hot meal' and id think 'lady where can you get a hot meal for 50p, i need to know cos im going to stock up'.

one day two other homeless blokes 'moved in' and they used to shout at her from across the street 'youre not homeless' and theyd have a slanging match across the road in the middle of the town. was hilarious. she was clearly not all there.

then one day im in the record shop and i look out the window and shes got her tongue down the neck of some old man and then is later seen coming out of a bush with someone else.

rank.

not seen her around for a long time. i guess just like the great jimi her time came to an end...

I used to live in Frimley - Blythewood drive, Parkside Estate - and I used to see that old woman wheeling her strays - she used to collect them and look after them. Then take them for walks about the place :) circa 1967 - 1977
