Hi all,

A while ago I got a bit of localised very hot spot on the drivers seat and smell  >:(

My deductions are heated seat element is buggered.

It is a Mini Facelift 2.5V6 CDX.  I have read that they are easiy"er" to do ? (noticed post for leather seats which sounded a like surgery was required ?)

  • Are they simple to repair wthout major surgery for a Cloth Trim seat ?
  • Can get the replacement elements ?

If its major surgery, then I shall leave it (not used them for a year or two now since the hot posterior eppisode at the traffic lights  :D ) as not dared to turn on since  :-\

My post at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=127630.0 actually shows the seats  :y

Thanks in advance.

Leather are most certainly glued in. So you have the reverse of the leather, the heated seat wires are fixed in place then the wadding Is laid over the top and glued and stitched down.

I've not seen the innards of a cloth seat cover but I'm told the cloth seats have a pad between the seat foam and the cover which is seperate and can be swapped put easily.

Although I the seat still has to come apart, the hog rings cut with side cutters and the seat cover removed, as the hog rings go through the heated pad as well. No biggy, as cable ties will do the job to rebuild it, but it is defo time consuming and fiddly to do on either leather or cloth.

Leather just means you have to cut away the wadding in a way that it can be put back and glued down, once the damaged wires have been cut out and a new section soldered in or whatever.

I would think if your getting a hot spot that both would show a scorched area on the reverse. Certainly leather does.

Thanks for the feedback.

I may leave it then if a bit of a faf and minor surgery.

I have not missed the heated seats ;D to be honest and car not used that much (once a week) as I commute mostly on my bicycle - not want to expose my baby to the cold elements as she is tucked up in heated garage under her blanket :y

Cheers,
Andy.
