Rear View Camera
« on: 07 December 2014, 00:20:31 »

need help please,

in order to prevent visibility into the rear of my estate, i darken'd the rear windows, all of it, with deep black limo foil, twice.
is great you cant see in at all.
but also not really much out/ lol

which is no problem as i am used to drive with rear view mirrors only.

i installed additional as back up a reversing camera, connected over the reversing lights as instruction suggested.
now the monitor, i purchased years back for another vehicle and lost the installation manual.

do i need to connect the monitor to camera source positive and negative or do i need a relays from the ignition positive,
and a feed from the camera direct to the monitor or just from the same source ( reversing lights ) direct to power positive on the monitor.

( is at the moment connected with the camera on the same positive feed from the reversing light but the monitor don't work.
so i guess i did it wrong.

usualy i am good with car electric but i thought i better ask before i spend hours of looking around until it works, is too cold for fiddle jobs too. lol

maybe a car electrician is on the forum which can help with proper connections?

Thanks in advance

Didn't sell then ::)

Seriously though, you've three choices...

1. Do nothing as it isn't a problem.
2. Remove the film.
3. Provide details of the camera system and screen so that someone might actually answer the question.

HTH...

well, i have in every car limo film in the rear windows.
mainly for the dogs and prevent everybody can see into the car.

camera system is not the problem, it works ( well the camera when it runs over the radio display )

problem with the radio display is, the radio turns off every time the reverse is on.
therefore i bought a standard 7 inch monitor.
not sure if this one gets enough power or need a direct power supply from the batterie instead the feed i am using from the reversing light.

wire the monitor to an ignition live and a negative...the camera to either the reversing lights or if you want it on permanently then wire camera to an ignition live too...ive done this on my van.....done forget to connect the camera to the monitor via rga cable(aka castle or phono)otherwise you wont have a picture on the monitor

yes.
the camera is wired to the reversing lights positive, and minus on car.
video feed connected from the camera.
also there is a feed which needs to be connected to the reversing light in order to come on when in reverse.
don't want it permanent on.
so this all is done and the feed as such works.
tested on the stereo system.

now to the monitor has all the connection from the feed of the reversing lights for switching on and of,
video input.
is just the question,

relays which switches the monitor on with ignition ? or no relays needed?

Dave DND might be able to help, but clever as he is, without specific details, even he would be guessing...
