That seems to be such a good idea, would be really great for disabled people who have to swivel out of the car seat. :y

Marvelous, and as Mike says, add a swivel seat for disabled people

Bit of a bugga on wet and windy days though, opens the door for the driver when only the rear passenger needs acces.

Bugga when the battery goes dead, specialy after reading all the Miggy dead battery threads.

I do like it all though.

I don't think that incorporating a side impact beam and airbags would be too difficult for a new design.  Slightly wonky idea though.  ::)

How old is that video?  Looks at least 15 years old!  :o

Looks really cool but just another thing to go wrong.  That would be an expensive fix!

Been around ages, this. Its one of those ideas that seems good but how long would it take before you got seriously p'd at how long it takes for the bloody things to open. Just nipping in to the shops would be a pain and how wet would you get waiting to get in to the car in the height of the British 'summer'?! Also as far as I can see it would only work on cars with frameless windows...

There's one very compelling and simple reason that the basic design of a car door hasn't changed since the 19th century 1897 Benz Coupe.

Same as the front door on your house; 2 hinges on one side and a single latch on the other... it works.

They say that necessity is the mother of all invention. This is not meeting any necessity really and therefore hasn't caught on.

It's just a stupid case of design for the sake of it.
