So went to Scotland last week 800 mile round trip, drivers door lock playing up so lock the car by opening back door and pushing driver lock down, have the part for that. Now the heater fan has stopped working. I love this car but it's starting to get to me.

Keep the faith - better the devil you know, as they say. Never forget a newer car isn't always the passage to trouble-free motoring that people might think. Also, the Omega is of the generation perhaps the last 'proper' cars, even so still with plenty of bits of black plastic you don't repair, just replace... but plenty you can still tinker with. Each generation devises cleverer and cleverer strategies to make the owner-mechanic a thing of the past. Forums like this the only way now to do home repairs. Why do we think Haynes make satchels now? Its because less and less people are willing (or able) to affect their own home repairs.

I'll keep my eye out for a heater fan at t'scrappy- are they easy to get to?

I have never had to take one out of an Omega before, glove box has to come out, but if have another job todo when that comes out too. I think I will have to PM RobG for the parts you never know what he has in his many parts sheds ( now wish I had removed the one from the MV6, or did I) PM incoming

Also I have had smoke coming from the back of the engine bay, I did the cam cover gasket the other week but did a good clean up after, but I'm 99% if smells more electrical than oil

Can "squeak" when on the way out, but also bearings known to be noisy if dry. Have you tried spraying with a lubricant into the blower blades?

As Rob says, drop glove box and put 12V across blower motor - if it spins hedgehog (resistor) is faulty (located top right behind glove box), if not the motor faulty.

I have had a faulty blower motor on one of the old Elites, and a faulty hedgehog on the current Estate.

As Rob says, drop glove box and put 12V across blower motor - if it spins, hedgehog (resistor) is faulty (located top right behind glove box), if not the motor faulty.

I have had a faulty blower motor on one of the old Elites, and a faulty hedgehog on the current Estate.

Wise words, Diamond Black Geezer. Senators were good cars too, but suffered starting troubles. Omegas are great cars, now very cheap on e-bay, but need owner-mechanics to make them economic to run. Without advice from this forum I could not keep mine going. As it is, all my family members happily cruise about in luxury, powerful, reliable cars.

I genuinely wonder if/when Opel will realise just how little people care about quality where it matters, and how easily swayed they are by some decals, and flashy add-ons. Because the instant they do, they'll stop building the cars as well as they do (the equal, in my opinion to BMW, and VAG is so many if not, all respects) Mercedes did this, and quality hit rock bottom, and yet it still commands that 'I'[ve got a Merc up the drive, don't you know' kudos.
