« on: 23 December 2014, 08:31:27 »

SWMBO  had a cooking programme on & the phrase make sure it's "piping hot" came up .

Just wondering where that came from ? :-\ :-\

Also what about "Pipe Down" ?

A quick google reveals:
The derivation of this little phrase is the sizzling, whistling sound made by steam escaping from very hot food, which is similar to the sound of high-pitched musical pipes.

Now we know  . .   thanks . . :y :y

Edit:  Just googled pipe down  . . . .  old naval saying from sailing ship days  . . . to calm the crew & get them below decks . Pipe comes from the Bosuns pipe used to do this  ;) ;)
