Ignition key remote repair
« on: 01 January 2015, 17:51:18 »

My 1999 MV6 has two key remotes, now both knackered. In one, the battery holder has let go completely, and the buttons and case are pretty rubbish. The other is much better, and has just stopped working due to one leg of the battery holder letting go. I'd like to get the better one repaired.
I've found this advertiser on Ebay.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-astra-Zafira-2-button-Remote-key-fob-Batery-holder-Repair-service-/221153349147?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item337dc44e1b#ht_2194wt_952
I'm a bit twitchy about sending a key to someone who has my address (the car's not worth much, but I keep power tools in it). Has anyone used these guys? Opinions welcome.
p.s. Many thanks for your answers on my recent post about intermittent tickover. I've been cleaning the idle control valve, and nearly cured it.

Very rare to knacker the switches on a 2 button fob, what have you done to them!  1998 fobs (with the icons not on the button) do tend to split. 1999 ones (with icons on the switch) are generally robust.

Are you sure the switches have failed, or just the battery holder (which is common).  Spare cases can be bought for next to nothing, or by filling your pockets at old style scrap yards ::)

If you were nearer, I'd show you how to fix these, but guessing West Country isn't near Brackley ;D
