Just come back from the main stealers,as I thought it was about time to get some new fobs as I have only the one original keyfob for each of the three cars and the one on the Elite has stopped working even after changing the battery on it,so it looks like it's fubared, so hence my reasoning to get some new ones as it's only a matter of time before I lose the one and only key.The cost of this exercise will be for the two cars without car passes £154.88 per car, and the other car with a pass £119.88 'KIN HELL!! close to £500 for three keys.Any one got any ideas how I can swerve this one and do it a bit cheaper as I do think that's a wee bit heavy.....I'm off to take a couple of Valium and have a lay down in a dark room 8

If it's any consolation that £500 would only buy you two from Mercedes.

Not sure if there's another route for the dreaded Car Pass... have a feeling the cost varies depending the mood of each individual stealer... as for keys, this cost can come down dramatically, the new fob, for starters can be got from a breakers as a freebie in your pocket, or off here for beer money, or ebay (in the form of slightly inferior quality, but perfectly good as a spare) for literally a few quid. Programming, your local keycutter / market stall that does phone unlocking, etc.. should be able to help. Have a feeling that there's two 'bits' ie: - the immobiliser 'bit', and the remote central locking 'bit' - the remote central locking function can go when you replace the battery, and can be easily reprogrammed by yourself inside the car, as per the manual. The immobiliser bit is the only 'specialist' element, but hardly advanced or difficult, these days, the design being approx 20 years old.

Ask around, independents should be able to do this a LOT cheaper. Seem to recall something like £30 when the old man had himself a spare made up?

The local locksmith we use charge about £70 a remote(mine was £60 a year ago), supplied, coded and working.  Genuine Delphi part, done while you wait with a Tech 2. Not having the carpass adds £10.

Get keys cut locksmith,get some remotes of ebay ,get security codes from stealers and find some1 local with tech 2 and chuck them some beer tokens 
Got to be cheaper than £500

Shop around for the carpass, other dealers may be cheaper

For the programming side, you're not a million miles from that Kevin Wood fella

Fob is around £25-30 for a 3 button one from dealer (trade), horseshoe with transponder is under a tenner from egay.

So should be about £35 for each key, tenner to program, £3-5 to mechanically cut (though some places won't cut keys they haven't supplied at vastly inflated prices ), and around £20 per carpass.

Thing is I don't have trade card and I'm not even sure that Eden's in Bracknell actually do deals......perhaps Aaron may know,breakdown of prices quoted from them this morning for one key......Sender £38.90, Ready cut key £61.00, Car pass £29.17 plus service with an attitude

The saving is in the key then; a locksmith will cut a new one while you wait from a blank for a fraction of that cost.

The prices you quoted originally are why I wouldn't even consider going to a dealer.

Got to agree,have been having a look around online,and there seems to be a fair amount of companies out there claiming to be  able to do most of what's needed.Possibly just need a personal recommendation from someone who has had a good job done

My recommendation won't help you much, especially for three cars, as they're in Gillingham.
Personally, I would get the key and remote etc from the same source to save a load of the faffing about that has been suggested.

Some one suggested Timpsons as they supply the complete item and claim to be able to program the key as well

if you are going to say Medway security then err no....they will sub it to some oppsing self-abuser over in brentwood who like's nothing betting than stitching people up

Won't be looking too far in all honesty Mark,will get it sorted locally with a bit of luck,looked on the bay of gay,a few second hand fobs on there but....it's like buying a twelve year Omega, a bit crusty round the edges ..... and on reflection, think I prefer something a bit newer so taking onboard what advice has been offered on here I think that's the plan
