Not so Smart TV woke me this morning
« on: 10 January 2015, 10:45:56 »

What is that????? Commentary on cycling (indoors not vitriol type) on Channel4

Got up to see what the hell was going on. For some reason the Tv had decided to switch itself on. Not me, no one else or pets around here to do it. I will have to leave it on mute in future when I put it on standby. Most unpleasant. >:( >:(

About the time everyone got paranoid that appliances on standby were costing them a fortune and wrecking the planet, the power consumption of most devices decreased to negligible levels on standby. Except Sky set top boxes. Those things are costing you.

Besides, what are those Lightwave boxes doing when they aren't switched on? They're on standby, of course. ;)

We use something like thishttp://www.savasocket.com/.

Works really well, when you power off the TV its powers off everything from the mains, except what you have chosen to leave on eg PVR or sky box etc(not that we have a sky box).
Well reccomended.

We got something similar to that free from EON ages ago. I use a 4 gang extension lead from one of them and plug in my tv, sky box and pvr. One click and they're all off.

I can expect a raid at anytime then from a bunch of tree huggers, where all my computers are on 24/7/365. :y :y :y

Be careful mentioning cycling, even watching it, as you might end up on STMO's hit list. :o :o :o

I have had a look on Tv planner to see what it will wake me up with tomorrow. HOWEVER I have muted it.

If it really is a Smart TV I will expect it to unmute itself!!! Hah  ;D ;D ;D ;D
