headlamp adjuster question
« on: 10 January 2015, 23:26:46 »

I have a wheel by the lightswitch that adjusts the dipped beam light, it actually works !
But, even on its highest setting the beams seem lower than they should be, both of my sons agree with me, so I was wondering if there is any more adjustment to be gained by trying the screws on top of the headlights, or do they do the same thing as the wheel if you see what I mean?

there are two adjusters on the headlamp, one left/right and t'other up/down. Your beam height should be set when the rotary adjuster is at zero. BUT ....... adjusters inside the headlamps have a habit of going brittle with age and break, which is when the headlamp might well point low.

There's a guide on stripping your headlights  :y

So if the rotary adjuster appears to work, are you saying the adjusters MAY still be broken?
Do the two adjusters on the headlamps adjust the same thing as the wheel or are there two seperate adjustment options?

AFAIK they are separate and independant adjustments ... the screw adjusters on the lamps change the "base" position of the lamp assembly, physically, both vertically and horizontally; the "wheel" changes the small electric motor inside the headlamp to vary the lamp DOWN from the base position only .. the lamp itself should always be adjusted in the highest position of the wheel setting ...

Thank you fellas, I will try adjustment at the headlight then, and soon find out if they are bust or not.
Mind you I will probably bust em trying.

Cheers all.

If you remove the large rubber cover from the back of the lamp (as though you were changing a lamp) you'll be able to tell if they're broken or not by whether the reflector is free to move .... ie wobble about  ;)
