Whilst driving home the other day my car started to jump/jerk when I would put the foot down. Seem to go away for a while until I was less than 500 yards from the house it started to get really bad while idle aswell. And then the engine management would come on and the car would cut out. Found out the egr valve would be the cause. Changed that today and it started for 10 seconds idling perfect and just cut out all of a sudden. Tryed towing it and engine management light still comes on and goes into limp mode. This car has my head fried between limp mode and not starting  :o. Really considering the box of matches and petrol can !! :D :D :'(

Crank sensor can cause limp mode.

Crank sensor can cause limp mode.

Would it cause it to not take any revs at all ?

Crank sensor can cause limp mode.
If the crank sensor dies on a DTi the tachometer will not move and the idling will be poor.

You really need to get the codes read because 'jump / jerk' is classic fuel pump failure symptoms imho.

Doubtful. If you change it, make sure you do it with the engine fully warmed up, drain any water from the drain tap at the bottom and top back up with diesel magic. Once started keep the revs up a bit because it will cough a bit if any air has got in. If you can't start it then too much air has got in and you probably have to bleed the system.
