Omega 2.2 petrol 2003 servotronic steering
« on: 17 January 2015, 15:50:26 »

Does my 2003 2.2 petrol Omega have the servotronic steering gear?

I find it ultra light after driving a BMW for the last few years and would like to adjust it to feel slightly heaver. Is this possible?

If my Omega doesn't have the Servotronic steering, then what UK models did have it?

Thanks

I don't think so - V6 only, unless it was an option to be ticked on 2.2's?

So, no Servotronic on the 2.2's. What a shame.

Thanks both for your help.  :y

Could be a tyre size/pressure difference compared to the BMW... My 2.2 feels quite heavy compared to my 3.2...

Ok heavy isn't quite the right word, but noticeably different to the point that I wonder if the 3.2 would benefit from not having Servotronic...  Purely from a driving point of view though :-\

There's no servotronic on any 2.2 AFAIK, in that the steering box has a fixed sensitivity, not variable with speed.

It's so light it's scary at times. Very nice for parking such a large car in tight places though.  8)

Al, have you ever tried using a different setting on your 3.2 Servotronic. If not, might be worth ago, the drive might be better suited.

Absolutely, definitely only fitted to 6 cylinder models (petrol and diesel), and not an option on 4 pot models

Yes, that made a lot of difference to mine. It was a bit over assisted as standard, and turning down the assistance made it much better.

The 3.2 is at it's lowest setting, and at parking speeds it's lighter than the 2.2, even with 245 tyres. It obviously works as intended...Once you start moving, it firms up nicely and the car becomes nice and secure, even in the twisties, whereas the 2.2 is always constantly weighty.

The driving improvement from not having servotronic affects those who regularly exploit the Omegas abilities, as the steering effort does funny things when the wheel speed and road speed don't match and a quarter turn of opposite suddenly becomes over half a turn with no feedback :o

I didn't even know it had 'settings' or is that a Tech 2 thing?

Change from my 3.0 Elite into my XJ-or vice versa-and there is a world of difference! The Omega is very noticeably weightier, although I think over assistance was always a criticism levelled at the XJ.Never felt insecure in either of them though! Can hustle either along quite nicely when the mood takes.

Exception to the rule is 2.2DTi Elites  :)
