2nd Batterie in Vehicle ?
« on: 21 January 2015, 18:39:41 »

Guys,
i intend, or better, i was planning installing a second Batterie in the Boot of the Car.
there more then one Reason for it.
First i i taken a good Job on which makes loads of money for less physical work.
in fact just Driving. for this i need Beacon and Flashing Stropes.
as They have to work while away from the Vehicle i need a good Power source not to turn up and cant start the Car because of a Flat Battery,
The  biggest Battery i can  install is again only limited on Power.

i thought about installing a back up Battery in the boot which gives me a lot more Power.
Exactly i would go for a Leisure Battery as they more reliable for holding Power.

how would the install work to connect both Batteries to use but not turning it into 24 Volt, and how can i charge the second Batterie without spending a lot money into a system, using some cheap options maybe plug and play like.

i must admit i ask the same question on a 4x4 forum and engineers forum as i try using the cheapest option i can get an answer for.
( sorry for that, but i don't want to spend loads of money first before i start making the cash ).
Thanks

> Thought more about chargers cheap available from Ebay, and if the give up is not a big loss just to throw it in the Bin and buy some professional Kit later on < < Powering all Flashlights and Beacon over Leisure Battery instead Car Battery ! <

Or fit a runlock ::)

Presumably if you're using the car for work, you will be being paid for fuel... so leave the engine running :y

Have a battery in the boot of the estate - VX kindly provide a perminant live feed which is connected to a split charge 'relay' - it's solid state really. This connects the boot battery for charging at 13.8v and disconnects at 12.8V  :y

Thanks, yes that's the one.
Found one which works on the same princip as Hilux and pajeros using.
Not expensive.

It's only the beacons and flashlight which running on it. All in all only 5w usage.

There's various ways of doing it, depending on the requirement, ie, charging both batteries whilst driving and making sure the second / potentially half charged battery doesn't discharge the main one when parked up and not being used.

In your case you need a method where the second Battery is being used for your Running Gear when stationary and the main Battery is isolated from it ensuring you have the power to start your car when the job is finished and ready to drive off.

apparently a switch charge solenoid will do the job.
whatever that is.
i tried to find one on ebay but nothing.
may try to look on amazon.

i have this info from a 4x4 forum but they part of the standart equipment on the vehicle so sourcing it is a bit difficult without wiring harness for that secific vehicle, which i dont need.
i dont even know how it looks. lol

Try looking for "Split charge relay" .. like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xsplit+charge+relay&_nkw=split+charge+relay&_sacat=0

You could always use a Leaf instead.  Loads of battery life in one of them ::)
