Can't open the car.....
« on: 23 January 2015, 18:09:39 »

Neither key, main nor spare, unlocks the doors - batteries ok as the LEdflashes, and I cannot open the door mechanically with the key.
Too cold and dark now to mess about, but if it's due to low car battery, is there a way to open the bonnet to charge it?

Make sure you use the correct key, and turn it about half a turn clockwise further than you think it will go. Should hear it clunk, button might not pop up though... :y

Definitely the correct key, Al; I own just the one car - and it won't turn more than a few degrees in the lock. I don't want to force it and break the key off in the lock!

That should not happen.  Turn slightly to left, then fully to right (clockwise) and you may well find resistance but it will eventually unlock your doors.  After each attempt pull the door handle and you may find it has unlocked but without the button coming up.  Had it all myself in the past! ::) ::) ::) ;)

If you don't, it will never open :y

Yay! I tried the Lizzie technique (thanks Lizzie) and after some jiggling, the door opened!
The battery was down to 10 volts, but even so the central locking should have worked?
As soon as I connected the charger, the horn sounded....frantic searching for the key fob - it worked.
More investigation needed in the morning, but the battery is fairly new and the only left unused for 3 days.....

Almost a result, Mr. Vamps. I am charging the battery as I type but tomorrow I want to find out why it got so low and if it will hold a charge - or, horrid thought - where is the current drain?
More to come, I fear, but I thank all for their help and concern.
