Well if you eventually prove that it was his vehicle (whether he was driving it or not he would know of any damage/scratching to his car) then he's just Officially dropped himself in the brown smelly stuff by denying any knowledge! I hope you get a good result & he gets his just deserts (if culpable)

Quite possibly M'Lud! But he would have to be aware of any damage however slight as Mr Plod has apparently been round to his gaff to enquire about the Failure to Stop
I vote to hang the miscreant anyway, as even if he's innocent then Steve can sleep easier knowing someone has paid!
