Very technical computer question

Hi all.

I have just bought a couple of Logitech Wireless mice. Strange things are happening on the 64bit drive.
I have two Windows 7 drives in this computer...32 bit and 64 bit. At the back of the computer is a block of four usb ports. The 'dongle' is in top right port. Fire up Windows 32 bit, device drivers load automatically by windows, mouse works fine. Device showing in control panel, Device manager, etc.
Boot up the 64bit Windows...drivers not loading, mouse not showing in Control panel, etc. Tried manually updating software...no joy. Computer about to be launched through patio door, when I think...Ah, I wonder if I try a front usb port. Pops in the dongle...loads drivers, appears in Control panel etc. Tried it back in original port...nothing.
So after all that....question is....why does that port (rear top right) work fine in 32 bit, but not in 64 bit. I tried my headphones 'dongle' in it, and they did not work either.
I don't understand how just switching boot drives affects that usb port ???

It could be something to do with bus compatibility between 32 and 64 bit versions.  In your control panel count the number of us ports on both, I wonder if they have different numbers. If the same try looking at the address for all on both versions make a list and compare.

i have 8 usb ports in the back and 2 in the front....i have just tried my wireless mouse in all of them...it worked fine....im running 64 bit win 7......

I don't care why things work (or don't), Just that they do (or don't)  ;D

Look to see if you have any unrecognised h/w in the 64bit device mgr.  Suspect you might have a missing usb3 driver?

On some motherboards there is a dedicated USB port that is ONLY for wired keyboards and mouses (mices or even meeces) or even HID devices.... could be the reason as to why it works in the front ports and not the single rear port... Have you tried any of the other USB ports on the rear..?

Yeah....other ports all work. Been switching stuff around to check. Its so weird that when I boot up with the 32 bit, every port works :o

That was my first thought as well.
USB3 should really only be used for storage devices Tony, try the dongle in a port that is not USB3 capable (USB3 ports are generally coloured blue).

USB3 should really only be used for storage devices Tony, try the dongle in a port that is not USB3 capable (USB3 ports are generally coloured blue).

You have hit it on the head matey....it is a blue one. And I now have it working on a black slot in the rear.
And, in Device Manager, I have found a yellow query mark on something to do with usb's  :y

You fella's are the mutts nuts...I learn something good every day ;) :y

Sounds like the USB drivers aren't installed correctly, and that makes me wonder what else is missing if they are astray.
