Back in the day, a mate of mine had a PFL Elite Auto TD, an issue was traced to the ABS ECU - we found another prefacelift TD Auto in a scrappy, and simply popped the ECU in and hey presto, car fixed. So...

Can anyone confirm that an early FL 2.5 V6 Auto ABS ECU marked DX will drop straight into a PFL 1996 2.5 V6 Auto without Tech2-ing?

My concern is, although the same engine and 'box, the FLs have a different TC system, and this would cause issue. Am I right or wrong?  :)

As the scrapyard is about to crush the 37k-er  - in spite of me wanting more bits off it yet ( >:(  :'( ) - I'm just wondering if this'll be my last chance to get such a low mileage one. I don't need one at present, just wondering about some 'preventative maintenance', alternatively if the time comes I do need one, they don't come up all the time, and also it's not the sort of part you can just do without until one shows up. Get it out anyway ! They fail and even if you can't use it someone else will be able to !!  If it's crushed its gone !!

Just my thoughts having had the problem on the old 2.5 some years back !!  and none were available so it cost £130 notes to get it repaired....

This is what is aggravating me - I mean the list of what I've got off that car is pretty intense, but nevertheless, hate seeing anything going to waste.

Copied from an excel document I have for the car's service history...

Cruise stalk
Headlamp stalk
alarm switch underbonnet
headlamp washer plastic
Jack, warning triangle, towing eye
HBV
Strut Mounts
bonnet lifters
Plenum,
Throttle body,
ICV,
breather bridge and hoses
HT leads
Coil Pack
Boot lifters
Brake shields front
fuel tank straps
Brake discs and pads front
steering idler arm
U-shaped bushes rear subframe
Hoses (Coolant and vac)
Exhaust hangers
steering wheel


That said, fair to say I've been a good customer - so why can't they keep it aside, let me get the last bits off? It's not like I want it free, I am trying to give them money!

Not counting chickens and all that but... I've rung them and they've got it on 'the list' of things to take off for me. Might be the wrong part number, but it's definitely got DX on it, I remember that, sir  :y

Um, well only that I'd have assumed (maybe wrongly) that a lower-mileage unit would be a better bet than a high-mileage one, that's all.  :)

It's a total lottery... my 270k unit is still working faultlessly (touch wood), yet others have failed with a quarter of the mileage :-\

A 96 V6 will have a 3 channel + TC unit

A FL V6 will have a 4 channel + TC unit


Needless to say, more chance of pulling your foreskin up over your head to keep you ears warm than getting that to work.

On a serious note...by the way you are talking, is it only the DX bit that matters, and not the other numbers. I think I have one here, but it came off a 2.6

Just wondering what the switches are like? Mine need replacing, including climate control, Lights, Windows...
