Looking at the TIS, there isn't a kick down switch, I'm assuming it gets accelerator position from the engine ECU as there are 2 com's wires.

Carl,
What engine is in your car? Does it have a throttle cable?

2.5/3.0 as per Dbugs link... kickdown switch is built into the throttle cable...
2.6/3.2 engine ecu sends throttle position info to gearbox ecu...

It's the 3.0 which isn't covered by the TIS so I made an assumption (and we all know what assumption's are..) that the 3.2 must be the same.. Opps..

Will look into switch.

Switch is located between the egr valve and the plenum :y

It's part of the throttle cable so diagnostically all you can do is unplug the switch or change the cable...

There is a kickdown switch.

Additionally has the MPG dropped since this has started, as it may be a symptom of the engine being under more load for an unrelated reason.

The speeds quoted are in that range of changedowns if needing to accelerate more than at a tunnie pace.  Remember, he TC unlocks, then it changes down. This may feel like 2 change downs (and the change up and TC lock may feel like 2 change ups). At 60mph, 2nd gear will be about 4.5k rpm
